OK burners I need some guidance. Until recently I was not overly concerned about being able to find a chunk of land to sleep on on Thursday afternoon at Burning Man. Should I be? There are only 4 of us. 3 regular sized tents and ~6' shade thing off the front of mine. Tell what you think. Be honest if you think we're nuts.

If you're just talking about real estate, there are several hundred square miles of desert out there, and within the confines of the event there is enough free space for another city. If you're talking about room to pitch a tent with the people you're camping with, that's another question that they'd have to address based on how much real estate they were granted at placement (if they're a theme camp).

There is a ton of free space on the outer streets that is pretty much first-come first served squatter's land, and there is also a designated place for random people to pitch tents- Steve D. used it one year before he found us.

The levitators got more land than expected, also, and while I can't speak for them until we finish counting heads and placing domes, if you get in a bind come see us.

We are not with a theme camp so there is nothing allocated. Really we're just 4 people that need to pitch a tent. Where is the designated space where Steve camped. Is it usually full by Thursday?

Obviously we want to be as central as possible but, we all have bikes and will manage. I just want to be prepared with a viable plan and not assume things. I'm swinging between 'It will all work out, it always does' and full out pnic.

Walk-In Camping

A marked area immediately behind the south side of Black Rock City will be reserved for Walk-In Camping. You will need to leave your vehicle, and carry your belongings to your chosen spot. No vehicles or RVs will be allowed in the Walk-In Camping area. The sheer difficulty of this exercise will keep the area sparsely populated, and your efforts will be rewarded with solitude not available in other parts of the city.

Why? Looking at the map, it seems pretty convenient.

I would really like to have the car there. And not have to lug a full air mattress much of a distance. But will take aother look the prospect. Thanks!

Awesome, I had no idea you were coming!

You should be fine. By Thursday afternoon the only land available will probably be on the streets farthest from the esplanade but there is always extra space out there.

Our corner of AEZ is located at 6:45 and F this year. Come say hi!

Yep I'll be there.
My sister lured me into a group that is spinning with LA fire conclave Saturday night. Things are an ongoing adventure in chaos at the moment.
