After delicious thai food Saturday night we headed over to the tidal basis near the Mall to see some of the memorials I've never been to. (please ignore that this category includes most of them.

The Jefferson Memorial was lovely and I think is one of my favorites. And the walk along the water under the cherry trees was so wonderful and reminded how much I love the scent, feel, and romance of fresh water. (yes I love the smell of it)

Then we wandered into the FDR Memorial. It IS my favorite. ( http://www.nps.gov/fdrm/ )
It is a series of four rooms, one for each of his terms. They are a beautiful combinations of water, sculpture and meaningful quotes. I highly recommend you seek it out if you are in the area.

It just makes me happy.

Lots of goings on recently, maybe not terribly interesting stuff, but productivity none the less.

knitting -> I am relearning how to knit. I started it as something to do with my hands when my brain isn't working. Knitting is good for that. I finished my first project on friday. It was just a dish towel, and being acrylic not a very good dish towel. But finishing something felt good. Haven't decided what is next yet.

sewing -> I currently working on a skirt for [livejournal.com profile] yldaeri. More challenging is the fact that I am cutting the pattern for it. Lots of pieces all going together in the wrong way. Exciting.

computer -> The laptops are fixed. One got a new hard drive one got a new screen inverter. Unfortunately the new hard drive meant that the old one was scragged beyond retrieval. Which means I am now trying to cobble together lost data. But I have my little 15" back and Steve gets my shiny 17" to replace his. Now all I need is a new battery and I will be totally mobile again.

Burning Man projects -> Coming along nicely
Give Me Shelter -- Parachute cut and ready to attach to post. Need to pick up some rebar today.

Evap-a-tron -- Still in planning stage, but its a good plan.

Well that is all the update you get for now.

So some friday fluff for your entertainment. (Be warned I take no responsibility for addictions caused by this post.)

I really never did the whole fandom thing. Then I found YouTube, then I found fanfic. So now I will occasionally get obsessed with some series or another.

In Plain Sight
Torchwood & John Barrowman (Jack Harkness is pansexsual, how awesome is that?)
Firefly

Merry Gentry
Kusheil's Dart

Underworld -- My eternal favorite

I also sometimes get obsessed with a band/artist and obsessively listen to all their albums I can get my hands on.

Ryan Star

And of course, Friday brings you music. Instead of the iPod shuffle I leave you with my always favorite. The one I made for [livejournal.com profile] quixotic_goat and I's wedding. Enjoy.

1. Power of Two -- Indigo Girls
2. True Colours -- Cyndi Lauper
3. The Ocean -- Dar Williams
4. Iris -- Goo Goo Dolls
5. Into the Mystic -- Van Morrison
6. When You Say Nothing at All -- Ronan Keating
7. I Hope You Dance -- Faith Hill
8. Friday I'm in Love -- The Cure
9. Accidentally in Love -- Hootie & the Blowfish
10. I Could Not Ask for More -- Edwin McCain
11. You Already Won Me Over -- Alanis Morissete
12. Golden Years -- David Bowie
13. Strong Enough -- Sheryl Crow
14. Crazy Love -- Van Morrison
15. Don't Leave Home -- Dido
16. Thank You -- Natalie Merchant
17. Time of Your Life -- Green Day

Love + music + joy

Rain falls on my face
lightening flashes across the sky
Thunder rolls through me

This is what makes the previous 10 hours of sucking humidity wirth it.

So, big bad social 3 day weekend. 3 days. 4 parties. 5 games. crabs. beer. burgers. brownies.

Friday. Date night with [livejournal.com profile] quixotic_goat. Tasty food and 'Prince of Persia"
Saturday. crunching crabs at [livejournal.com profile] julesk and [livejournal.com profile] wahyagar's
chocolate chip cookies and games at [livejournal.com profile] kaelikat's
Sunday. burgers, brownies and games with some old college/high school friends'
Monday. grilling and games and goats with [livejournal.com profile] reedrover, [livejournal.com profile] achaosofkittens and [livejournal.com profile] fireandearth.

wow. that was a lot. My brain overloaded a bit Monday afternoon and had to retreat to the back room while everyone was playing with baby goats. But all in all it was a fantastic weekend.

So a productive end week was followed by a lovely weekend. Saturday was productivity in the morning followed by [livejournal.com profile] jpenamelist 's graduation party. (I am so proud of her.) Lots of wonderful friends and interesting people I hadn't met yet. (I'm a sucker for an awesome tattoo, or 8) All said it was a mellow evening, however highlighted by hysterical, and most likely inappropriate, laughing with [livejournal.com profile] julesk (yes we act like a couple 12 y/os sometimes. and no I will not explainour jokes :P) Also warm cuddles with good friends. Though I was disappointed on the lack of hot tubbing, next time muwahaha.

Sunday brought sleeping late and house puttering. aka pretending to accomplish things. Oh and a NAP! omg is my sleep schedule fucked up.

Trying to get back up to speed this week.

optimism + introspect + coffee

Very very productive day. Laundry, groceries, studying, major post office run. Then home for dinner out with [livejournal.com profile] reedrover and [livejournal.com profile] quixotic_goat. TGIFriday's. Not my favorite but the sweet potatoe fries were delish and the company engaging as ever.

Now time to surf LJ a bit and stumble off to bed. I meant to make a music post earlier but didn't have time and am now too tired to look for the iPod.

night night LJ

wow

There is a line, a threshold, where friends become more,
where you look across the gap and figure it out.

I toed that line and caught the brass ring

May you find your line and take that risk

and yes [livejournal.com profile] oceansfire you get the prize for knowing it all along. Though I think I may get to say the same thing one of these days.
darkfyre_muse: (TV tights)
And so it goes...

Things are going pretty smoothly this week. Not much of interest. Finally getting some basics established that I had been putting off. (I hate finding new professionals. Dr,dentist, etc et al) And trying to be better about keeping a regular schedule. I am still sleeping pretty crappy but I hope to get some help for that next week. (having to split your sleep into 2 sessions sucks and wastes time.)

Two weeks ago I headed to LA to catch a ride to Fire Drums in Santa Cruz. (yes yes I know how far the drive is. But I didn't have to rent a car and got free strawberries) Fire Drums is a fire spinning event in the mountains every year. It was my first fire event and will always be a favorite. Some of the best spinners in the world come together for 3 days of workshops and 2 nights of amazing fire. Took 2 fan classes, 2 weapon workshops and a dance for staff class. I also got to play with my birthday present. A HOOP. Yes I am now a hooper girl. OK not really but its fun and a good core workout. I have good hand manipulation skills but am still learner to actually manipulate it with my body. Lots of friends from all over CA and best of all I got to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] oceansfire and her girlfriend. They are adorable and I love them both.
Saturday night was very interesting, I took firewalking. Yes on hot coals. It was amazing.

This past Saturday I headed to Silver Spring with [livejournal.com profile] quixotic_goat and [livejournal.com profile] reedrover to see The Vagabonds . It was a lovely evening of piratical music, belly dancing and Stupid Things With Fire. We timed it so that we reached home just in time to go thud into bed.

So thoughts and musings and a long over due post.

First and best I got my first tattoo on tuesday night. It is my burner ink. The first design that i saw and knew I had to get inked. It is a black flame on my sternum. I LOVE it!

Other things:
We have been keeping rather socia, getting out most weekends, I am keeping up with a goal to get together with [livejournal.com profile] julesk every couple weeks.
lots of board game fun. Something we really missed on the left coast.

And lots of birthday fun planned for me!!

more to come :)

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft."

Or in my case, before you forget.

I love farms and children on farms, i just feels right.
I get a certain tingly feeling when I get near old houses full of antiques
Autumn is very very special
Rain is amazing (ok this I never forgot, but it always bears repeating.)

And then there is the remembering of things I have never really had. Knowing that without the nodding heads of sleepy husbands we would have opened another bottle of wine and talked for a few more hours. Have a shortage of weekends because so many people want to see you.
I have fantastic friends.

So here is how the trip East ended up. It was a fantastic, exciting, grueling epic 3 week adventure. I am so happy we got to see so many friends and family. None of the visits were long enough, they never are it seems. And I am unspeakably grateful to everyone who housed us and the fur beasts, you are all saints. He entire trip reminded me how much I love cities. Somehow there is texture in a city that I can’t capture anywhere else. It was our first time in the Pacific NW, and I am now dying to go back.

All epic journeys involve at least one night spent in the car.

I love old bricks.

Whenever I start a job search I need to be sure to spend a little time, or a lot, doing things that remind me why I love what I do. I spent all of this morning and some of the afternoon wandering around St Louis taking pictures of houses and street lamps and old warehouses and power plants. It was very good and it has been far too long since I have had the uninhibited desire to wander down random alleys and through not quite vacant lots. Of course as I was taking a series of shots of nice row houses in Layfette Park, it occurred to me. How does one prove that they are a trigger happy architecture bum and not casing houses? I should really figure that one out.

Headed onward to DC/NoVA.

More later.

10+ hours alone (ok with 2 cats but they don't talk much) in a car make for lots of thoughts. I have apparently retained very few, as I am unable to access them.
Career and houses and relationships and parties. So yes I want all these things. Unfortunately now I am in Jenny's den and am at a lack for deep thoughts. Maybe more will come later.
darkfyre_muse: (scorch)
I started a post saturday but never finished.
"I am feeling very dysphoric right now.
Edgy, almost, though not quite, paranoid.
Feeling full of potential, but not motivated."

So that was my weekend. I hate feeling like that. I didn't get done nearly what I "needed" to. And that feeling that I should have accomplished more usually means that I start reducing my sleep in the hopes of catching up. You can see where this is going. No where good. Last night was the most sleep I've gotten all week. 5 hours. Stellar.

Work has been alright. I have been doing sections of existing buildings for a new project. It isn't my favorite thing but at least sections are interesting. So just about enough work to keep me mostly engaged. This is a nice change.

I leave for Burning Man in 14 hours!! So excited!!! A whole week in the desert with fantastic friends, art and lots of fire. It'll be good to be in a place where I fit and don't have to censor my brain.
The car is mostly packed I'll leave tonight after work.

Probably more of an update later.
