I deeply apologize to
altahnthorunn I am a total LJ slacker. All is well with us.
Though the circumstances know feel pretty odd. Many people are still evacuated or truly homeless. Many others have been allowed to return home. The shelters are not nearly as full. The strange part is that many of these fires are less than 10% contained. (brief explanation as to how this works. Containment is the first goal. 100% containment means that the fire is completely surrounded by a stable effective 'fire break'. But it is by no means out. It can take up to 10-14 days to actually completely extinguish a blaze and the subsequent 'hot spots', which can reignite spontaneously a previously extinguished area.) So the danger is still very real but as the wind calms they direction seems to become more stable and many threatened areas. though not burnt, are deemed safe. Fortunately dew points are rising. Monday dew point in Oceanside was 2 degrees F. Yesterday it was 26. Still painfully low but, more manageable. The big enemy is still the wind. So that's the basics. And now the finger pointing shall begin in earnest. It always does.
On a totally different note, has anyone dealt with a UTI in a dog before? How rare is it to need 28 days of antibiotics instead of 14? We are having issues with Helios and I am trying to assess the validity of my vets desire for prostate testing. (ah the expensive joys of an un-neutered male.) The vet is historically test happy so I usually want a second opinion before shelling out a 4 digit number.
