Hmmm.. me thinks terminal angst is receding. This is very very goo, this were sorta starting to implode there for a while.

Today I feel very positive, highly motivated and possibly optimistic. Eminent fear of certain upcoming events is lessening. Though one should never under estimate my ability to rapidly switch from bouncy to terrified. Yea maybe I should do something about that. (I am the most optimistic pessimist I know.)

I am currently at my desk bouncing on the balance ball. Yes I have indeed returned to eliciting odd looks from coworkers by Eschewing my desk chair for a 55cm ball. It is good for my posture and consequently my neck/arm issues. Plus bouncing is much more fun than spinning. )

This is only one reason I love this office. An email sent from owner #1:

"Hi All:
Due to the delay in getting some of our new work started, (owner #2) and I have decided we should all enjoy the “down time” as it doesn’t happen every year. Therefore, we will close the office starting noon on Dec 24th and will reopen on Monday January 5th. The following days will be paid holidays.

1-5 pm Dec 24th
Dec 25, 26, 29, 30, 31
January 1,2"

Do you know what this means children?
TWO EXTRA DAYS AT BURNING MAN!!!!!!

It's raining again. I awoke to it splashing on the roof. And oddly enough, since I grew up in Pittsburgh, 46 degrees and rainy feels like Christmas. I am slowly getting into the Christmas mood. Lights and ornaments are up. Cards in the mail. Still need to do some shopping and gift making but nothing stressful.
I think that is one of my major goals in life. Never let holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving become some huge anger-ball of stress. Do the things you care about and the things that matter and let the rest ride. So far it seems pretty effective. (It is also the reason that I got to have coffee and cake and quiet conversation at my wedding reception)
Holidays usually came with a fair about of stress as a kid; it's a tradition I would like to end. Fortunately I think things are mellowing with my family, or I'm around so little I can ignore it.

At the moment I am making real progress in study and watching the rain trickle down my cube window. It's a good day.

While I was munching on baguette and chatting at the cafe, my friend mentioned a conversation last week with a couple of his regulars. Apparently they were rather impressed with my ability to carry on an extended intellectual discussion and my general knowledge of environmentalism, politics and green tech. Not sure exactly what that means coming from a couple retirees but it sounded like a compliment to me.

So took an early lunch to get some things taken care of.

1) Got the hold on my gym membership fixed. Somehow my annual dues I paid by phone on 10/10 hadn't posted yet. Eh? 10 weeks?! Are you kidding me? So now I have no excuse to not work out tomorrow.

2) Finally got back to the running store to try on the shoes that ordered for me. I got the perfect pair of Brooks for $50!! And they're BLUE!! There was a pair of pink ones in the pile and I actually refused to put them on. I detest pink.

3) Got tasty lunch at my friend's cafe and there was no one there so we could just chat.

When last we saw our heroine she was being cozy and happily domestic. This good mood lasted the duration of a glorious 4 day weekend. Cut for the sake of length and fl courtesy )

I haven't felt this good in a while. Hence yesterday's surfacing post.
I feel happy, and loved and all warm and fuzzy.

There is tasty food cooking, pretty candles burning and furry cats to cuddle. A little flaming fun later and it may just be a perfect day.

oh and there is coffee and pie and wine. I'd like to see you top that.

peace + love + happy

The weekend wasn't great. :(

But despite that I seem to have found a box of happy this morning. Not bad for a Monday.

Budapest -- The List

Quick factoids.
-- Budapest became a single city occupying both banks of the river Danube with the unification on
November 17, 1873, of right-bank (west) Buda and Óbuda (Old Buda) together with Pest on the left bank
-- Ancestral people -> Magyars (mug-Jars)

The adventures of Darkfyre and the goat-boy

Tuesday, 7/22

Castle Hill -- The old city fort of Buda.

Wednesday, 7/23

Indoor market -- Huge where you can get everything including lace, wood toys, seriously fresh produce
LIVE fish, plus a side of Beef
National Museum -- Interesting enough in a very museum sort of way
Gellert Baths -- OMG I love european baths!

Thursday, 7/24

City Park -- Nice big park with lots of open green space and random museums
Plus a replica of a castle
Heroes' Square
Museum of Fine Arts tasty fun! Though we skipped the art hall across the way (It took me until Vienna
to get into full out museum mode, so I had no stamina)
Saint Elizabeth's -- neat little church that was marked WRONG on our map!
Andrassy Utca -- Major throrough fare through the center of town. Think Champs de Elysees
without the eiffel tower

Friday, 7/25

Castle Hill round 2
Hall of Defense -- neat wanderings
The Labyrinth -- series of caves under the hill. About half was actually man made catacombs sans
dead bodies
National Gallery -- More arty fun, though the guide book was right, there is a reason you haven't
heard of half these Hungarian artists of display
Synagogue Memorial
House of Hungarian Photographers -- VERY cool contemporary gallery

Saturday, 7/26

Szentendre -- day trip up the Danube Bend

Sunday, 7/27

Eger -- Medium sized semi-touristy city East of Budapest

I am totally exhausted, kind of achy and have no clean clothes, but the weekend I just had was so worth it.

The short version: I took Friday off and went to Fire Drums.

The more interesting version: Part 1 )
darkfyre_muse: (TV tights)
So generally speaking I usually have a post lurking in my brain at various states of creation. Tonight is no exception. But I also tired and feeling off. But I just put in laundry and can't sleep til it is in the dryer. Minimal work clothes mean laundry can NOT be postponed most weeks.

I think that I have regained balance at work. The big problem the last 2 weeks has been that I needed to do a wrap up to the most recent project that was done but not truly done. bleh, mostly coordination and paperwork, shoot me now. But that is mostly done and now moving on to the next school. PLease curb your enthusiasm.
The studying has stagnated, another challenge for the eternal tomorrow.

On to social goodness. I actually had a dinner party Thursday. AND people actually showed. Miracle I know. It was inspired to celebrate my 31st birthday. Fresh-ish pasta, red wine and chocolate cupcakes. All in all a lovely evening highlighted by good conversation with my 2 favorite west coast friends and there adorable baby.Made for a feel good friday. Dropped the dogs at the kennel after leaving work early and headed north to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] oceansfire. But not before having a sudden surge of manic inspiration. I want to go to Coachella and have no one to go with. So I rung a friend that I haven't seen in forever to try and wrangle a partner in crime for next weekend. So if he isn't off with a new girl interest we're headed for the desert and indie music and mayhem.

Yesterday [livejournal.com profile] oceansfire and I hit Universal Studios. A birthday request of my dear sister but, SO not my thing. A good coaster and a couple interesting sfx related things but, mostly bleh. And really guilt inspiring to boot. But in all a decent day despite general crowd and commercialistic annoyances.

OK I need to get some sleep. Not sure why I keep putting it off.
darkfyre_muse: (scorch)
Why?

1) Swords are cool
2) Fire is cooler
3) belly dancing with fire and sharp obects is so sexy.

First I need to find cool people to dance with in SD County. My sister can hook me up in Long Beach but those classes are like 1.5 hours north. eewww.

Everything is out of the office. Gone done untakebackable. The pressure is lifted, a calm descends upon the office. Everyone is quiet and passive. AND the mandatory OT has been rescinded. We are in a holding pattern during a redesign of the final phase. I came in at 8 today and damn does that hour make a difference.

The weather today has been perfect. The morning was cool and grey for my drive in. But by lunch it had burned off and is now sunny with light puffy clouds. Not oppressively sunny, just nice and comfortable. I got out at lunch and was majorly productive. I found a new eye doctor and a colorist/stylist. Two things I hate looking for and have needed for the last 3 years. (My initial experiences with the above in CA were less that acceptable.) I also found a pottery painting place and a new restaurant. This also indicates to me that I do need sunlight and sleep, much to the contrary of my otherwise mopey assertions.

The creative juices are flowing and I feel motivated and productive. Hopefully I can keep it going. (by brute force if required.)

The introduction to deployment is moving forward. I find that really don't think about where he is, such that since its just 2 weeks it feels like any other TDY/training. Better actually since I know that he will be back at about the time the novelty of living alone again has worn off.

Happy Friday to you all.

peace + hope + joy

A true rarity in this world.

A good weekend always helps set the stage.
Have you ever watched the Disc 2 of all your DVDs?)
Being reminded of why a certain movie really is your favorite and interviews with
insightful dead people.

Then you must dress the part. And I am beginning to see that the right shoes make the woman. (crap I'm becoming a girl)

And finally feeling physically and mentally balanced. (The nice part about being unstable is that you really appreciate the good days. And I am really due for a few of those.)

Here's to a good week.

peace + love
darkfyre_muse: (Default)
Yep I do. teehee. soo happy. Its actually a really deep auburn. Its probably much much darker than any of you can imagine. (For those confused, I used to be a totally natural light blonde) I decided to dye first cut second so the ends look pretty fried right now. Maybe I'll even post a pic later.

ciao ciao

sigh.

I love having sufficient candles to light the living room enough to read by.

Well it is almost 9 and all is right with the world. I am scrubbed so clean that I squeak, warm, well fed and totally at peace. I am not who I was yesterday. And I have no idea why. (I think investigations into that why are long overdue for intense study.) Work was productive and satisfying. Most of the tedium cleared, at least for now, and a new graphics oriented project started. One with a relatively short and well defined timeframe.

And with that I bid you goodnight. Sleep seems upon me and I will take full advantage of the opportunity of good, long, restful sleep. Not sure the last time I all three together at once.

When will I learn that certain things promote happiness and it's associated peace:

take your meds
eat vegetables
go to the gym
meditate
good sex

I have rediscovered these things this week and hence feel just shy of euphoric this morning. I want to dance around the office in those free, happy, spin-y circles that go well with the Cure. I will have to be content with the iPod and being bouncy.

As a sad testament of my life this coincides with Steve's trip to VA. bleh. Hopefully it last s for a few weeks. So everyone that gets to party with him this week I am painfully jealous of. (Plus jealous of him for getting to play with you all.)

ciao,ciao

It is so wonderful to once again enjoy my job and feel like I am finally making real career progress. I actually go to work happy in the morning. There are interesting things to do involving problem solving. I get to research cool, new products by companies that actually think about sustainability and enviromental impact. So a few links as to why I love the what I do. :)
