Fire Drums Part 2

So Friday afternoon brought contact juggling, fire eating and contact fire. As previously mentioned the fire eating was less than inspirational. I really doubt I will explore this much. Because quite frankly I despise the taste of fuel in my mouth. As a bystander commented, “I am a raw vegan, I am NOT putting petrochemicals in my MOUTH”. Now while I am a cooking omnivore I am still trying to minimize my exposure to chemicals and other modern nasties. Contact fire was much more interesting though it seemed the instructor really didn’t want to teach it. Pretty much you soak your torch but don’t spin it off as you would for eating or spinning. You the run it across a body part leaving a flame trail. How cool is that?
Contact juggling was also much fun and really seems to be a habit I could get into. I also picked up 4 wood contact balls for $20 to practice with. If I’m still doing it in 6 months I’ll pick up some acrylic ones.
Friday night was the first major burn of the weekend. Holy Crap are these people good. You can probably find some video on youtube. Check it out you will not be disappointed. Crashed early around 10-11ish and proceeded to get 6-7 hours of unconsciousness.
Since the burn runs til 4 or so the classes don’t start til 10:30. This means that for me the early morning freak lots of time to make coffee and wander around. Day full of toy browsing at vendor village, 2 fan classes and a somewhat painful staff class ensues. Tasty taco like dinner and adult beverage to accompany an incredible marathon burn. (I crashed at 2. Slept 4 hours and woke do to major cold. Wandered over to the fire circle to find a dozen burners still at it. And OMG was Zan in rare form!) No classes for me on Sunday. Leisurely breakfast and packing out. Hit the road around 11 for the 8 hour drive home.
Quite the satisfying adventure that earned me some new friends and a Burning Man invite. That’s another post but, I have mostly said yes.
