We went to Germany last summer and I found that even as a pseudo-vegetarian (I ate a LOT of fish) I ate very very well. I had been a little nervous, because the Germans have the "meat and potatoes" reputation and because Alex's German-born mother can never figure out what to feed me, but evidently the German relatives did not find this as challenging. I definitely gained some weight in Germany (and then lost it in England, where the exchange rate was VERY unfavorable and we ate a lot of baguettes and cheese).
