It's 1030, early. It feels late. I do know why. And I am searching the net for happy. Really though it's not a bad night just really mellow. So some Firefly, some Angel, chocolate cupcakes and YouTube. (Celtic Thunder, look it up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlnLk4Y_kKM&NR=1 )

As wayhagar and julesk can atest to I have had way too much free time at work. (gotta love gchat)

So other than bothering my friends, what have I been wasting my time on? The interwebs of course.

-- email musing with reedrover and quixotic_goat (Yes I owe you both lots of
responses)
-- Jury Duty (not the highlight of the week)
-- searching Irish baby names (traditional not modern, really there are good ones that Americans
should be able to pronounce. Beats the heck out of fruit)(and yes this should be its own
post)
-- Boot shopping. (yep I am finally a shoe girl, deal. Maybe more girl clothes are next?)

And a bit of actual work.

Evenings? Too much TV and not enough laundry or vacuuming. Biggest accomplishment? Catching up on sleep & some not depressing life musings. (Its amazing the conversations we can still start after 6 months and over email no less)

Next week my bosses are on vacation and due to recent developments I have very little real, billable work to do. Go thumb twiddling.

For 2 weeks now I have been in this stasis, for lack of a more accurate word. I feel that coming to an end. I find that the start of each season is a time of renewal for me. I did a good bit of soul searching on Sunday at the temple. Now its time to do something about it.

A) I am just girly enough to sometimes think about it.
B) A little over a year ago I was introduced to out of the box ideas about birth and child rearing. It's become a soap box of mine ad occasionally becomes a big topic that I am reading up on
C) And well I'm 31, Steve gets out next year and the idea seems like a good one.

So nothing eminent or definite, just thoughts and conversations.

I'll have to add you to my gchat so I can pester you, too. Although I'm usually chasing someone around the house and it can be hard to sit still long enough to have an actual conversation.

Yea you me and Lori, scaring OBs everywhere. (I'm not quite that enthusiastic)It's an interesting hobby. Steve humors me but is pretty open to most I've my ideas. A very its you're body, stance.

So are you taking this year off? Or is it a more (or less) permanent situation? Regardless send the invite. Depending on the day I have varying levels of time. The next 2 weeks? I have nothing but.

We decided not to put her in daycare (just not what we wanted), so it's more or less permanent until kindergarten (barring unforeseen circumstances). It's pretty excellent to have the time with her (most of the time). :)

I got the "it's your body; it's up to you" thing, too, which is certainly better than some alternatives!

Have you read Marsden Wagner's Born in the USA? I liked that one - very readable.

Sent the invite. Mom's here for the next 2 weeks, though, so I may be not so chatty (or may be more chatty, depending, since she does some of the chasing!).

As for the birth ideas. I understand that people should make their choices for their own body. And I think it goes way deeper than that.

Women are taught from birth to be victims. One friend of mine loves to tell her daughter how hungry she was in labor and how she had to beg for food. Then she didn't eat the 1 popcicle they allowed her quick enough and it melted and fell on the floor. She started crying. She thinks its hilarious. She's teaching her daughter to think its funny when someone else makes an adult beg for a basic need (food) and that it is acceptable for them to deny that need.

There is also the issue that it is a nice idea that people should show they are grown-up and responsible before having a child. Yet the system most people choose is to turn over all responsibility for their body and their baby to someone else. And we as society enable this. We say okay I'll deliver your baby. I'll feed your baby. I'll raise your baby.

Beyond the obvious physical measurable benefits to home birth there is the very hard to measure emotional aspect. When you do the work you feel empowered. Its so hard to explain. Think of something important that you did - getting hired for your first real job. It gives you such a feeling of self-worth. It takes women out of victim-hood.

Yes, women have the choice to be victims. And they have to make the choice but shouldn't we as a society try to push them out of the victim roll?

Yea my level of hate for aol is pretty high. Mainly they frustrate me with stupid. If I ever get all my trillian set up on this machine I will show up, I just need to convince them to reset my password. (see again with the stupid.)

Anyway gchat is different, it doesn't use a installed client it runs totally in your web browser. So all you need is a gmail account. I sent you an invite. When you have it set up input all your contacts who also have gmail into your contacts. A list will appear on a sidebar to the right. You can then invite them to chat.

Offbeat, historical, not too hard to pronounce. (ok ok Mairead is scary but I adore it.)

Again really just playing around. I like irish names and now that I finally have one for me I need some kind of excuse. ;)
